At 12:43pm today, I received a text message from a classmate which said:
“From BBC News: Japan govt confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. Remain indoors first 24hrs. Close doors n windows. Swab neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precaution, radiation may hit Phil startng 4pm 2day. Pls pass."
I was very doubtful. I do not have faith on these kind of chain messages. I had to confirm the news.
At around 3:42pm, I received a text message from my mom telling me to shut down the house and just turn on the air-con, as ordered by my ever-cautious grandmother. This raised my alarm. Was it really true? Nevertheless, I did what my mom told me to do.
After a while, I turned on my computer and went directly to news sites. Lo and behold, they declared that the rumors were false. There was little chance that radiation will reach our country. But still, it encourages people to be pre-cautious.
